Historically, African Americans have been most affected by hours-long waits to vote. Now, COVID-19 threatens to make it worse. The current public health crisis has led to a severe shortage of poll workers who make elections run, making it harder for people of color to vote in the 2020 election.
It doesn't have to be this way.
We have seen the galvanizing force of youth and black voices across the country in the wake of the death of George Floyd. Voices of those standing in the streets in protest chanting “Black Lives Matter” and imploring those in power to take notice.
You marched and demanded change. Now, take it further.
LDF and More Than a Vote are asking you to step up, become a poll worker, and ensure hundreds more in your community can safely vote this fall.
LDF and MTAV are working with Power The Polls to recruit poll workers.
The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) and More Than A Vote (MTAV) are proud to launch a non-partisan voting initiative that will bring together the cultural influence of the MTAV athletes and artists with LDF’s voting rights expertise and long-standing community activism to fight voter suppression, including that related to COVID, across the United States.
The objectives of the multi-year partnership are to ensure that African American voters have safe and secure options for voting and are protected from all forms of voter suppression in advance of and on Election Day 2020.
